Jean Baptiste Casmiere Breschard was a Frenchman and an equestrian. Breschard was a partner of Victor Pepin who brought their circus to Boston in 1807-08 from Spain. After performing in Boston, they moved their company to New York City and then to Philadelphia. The company performed alternate seasons between New York and Philadelphia for a number of years offering both circus performances and horse dramas. Breschard has been described as riding with elegance and modesty. Charles Durang described Breschard’s riding as “a genteel comedian attired for the polished drawing room.”
